The national monument housing department store V&D, located at Aalmarkt in central Leiden, has recently been redeveloped. The completely renovated branch is now the very first House of Ideas in the Netherlands, offering new concepts, premium brand shops and their own branding throughout the building. The floor space has been reduced, opening up 6,000 m2 of premium shopping space for new retailers. Besides V&D, branches of The Sting and Art & Casey have settled in the Waagblok. A free, underground bike parking facility was realized underneath V&D, which is now considered a real asset to the city.
