Involving a concept that was controversial to say the least, five years of construction and no fewer than three investors, this new iconic building in the heart of Rotterdam now offers shopping, dining, recreation and living space. The covered food market, supermarket, food-related stores and unique hospitality units cover an area of 8,000 m2. The spectacular, horseshoe-shaped arch comprises 228 apartments, both owner-occupied and for rent, amongst which are 24 exclusive penthouses, built with a unique view of the inner city. In addition, every residential layer has a view of the bustling market floor and the enormous work of art painted on the inner walls and ceiling. A parking garage holding 1,200 cars is located underneath the Markthal.
