Of course, green technologies such as solar energy, using circular and bio-based materials and smart technologies are an important part of this. But they are irrelevant if they don’t go hand in hand with state-of-the-art concepts and innovations. As a result, developments will still fully meet the needs of today, but also the needs in 50- or 100-years’ time.
Design plays an integral role in this. Buildings that are so appealing that they enrich the area and the user. In this way, design also adds value to the built environment.

De Markthal
Multifunctional land use, densification and more liveliness in the beating heart of the city
Due to its special design, the Markthal in Rotterdam has become an international calling card of the city. In this mixed-use building functions are combined in a special way. This has led to multifunctional land use, urban densification, and more liveliness in the beating heart of the city. The design is sustainable and with the addition of the large ceiling artwork by artist Arno Coenen, a perfect example for leading architecture.
